Technical Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education Training Authority (Teveta) on Thursday last week launched its five-year strategic plan at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

Making a presentation at the launch, Teveta acting executive director Wilson Makulumiza-Nkhoma said the strategic plan for the 2013-2018 period is an initiative undertaken in order to reinforce the transformation of Tevet, so as to effectively respond to new realities and opportunities prevailing in the country and beyond.

According to Makulumiza-Nkhoma, the plan maps out a commitment towards the provision of high quality Tevet programmes that are demand-driven and relevant to the development needs of the nation.

He further highlighted that the strategic plan has been laid out based on five pillars namely, access and equity, quality and relevance, governance, management and cross-cutting issues.

“These five pillars reflect the backbone of the programme design and effective implementation,” he said.

Mkaulumiza-Nkhoma then added that the pillars have been anchored on a number of goals and objectives of which the paramount is to ensure an adequate and competitive workforce for export-led socio-economic growth of Malawi.

“This is Teveta’s response to the country’s mid-term plan to ensure improved productivity of the Malawi workforce. We formulated this strategic plan to achieve total commitment to placing Tevet at the centre stage of the socio-economic development of the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy 2 (MGDS 2),” he said.

The strategic plan which was launched under the theme “towards high quality, relevant and demand-driven skills” was graced by minister of labour Grace Maseko, Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) chief executive officer Chancellor Kaferapanjira, banking executives and a cross section of dignitaries from both government and the private sector.

Teveta is a regulatory body established in July 1999 by an act of parliament. It was founded to operate as an independent and autonomous body responsible for technical, entrepreneurial and vocational education and training in Malawi.
