Azam Tigers coach Leo Mpulula has said he will live by his word and part ways with the club for failing to win any silverware this season.

The outspoken Tigers mentor said although there is an option to extend his contract, he will bow out to pave the way for someone else.

“I have done my part. It is time for someone to take over since they want results.

“The team did not perform to expectations, but as coaches, we have limits because we do not go on the pitch to play. We have game plans, but sometimes the plans do not work according to your expectations.

“My time is over at Tigers. After this season I am not interested to continue,” said Mpulula who is considered one of the promising coaches on the local scene.

Asked who he would recommend when he quits, Mpulula said: “It will be up to the management of the team, I am sure they will get a good coach elsewhere.”

Tigers general secretary Geoff Kachale said much as Mpulula’s contract is coming to an end, management is yet to discuss his fate.

“But what I can say is that at the beginning of every season, targets are set and we sit down to see if such targets have been met and depending on the analysis, we determine the way forward.

“However, the fact is that in the past two seasons, we have not won any cup neither have we managed a top-four finish in the league. So, perhaps that could be the basis of his position,” said Kachale.

He said Tigers executive board, which is headed by chairperson Sydney Chikoti, will soon meet to map the way forward.

Mpulula’s deputy McDonald Yobe parted ways with the team mid-season having been suspended on disciplinary grounds.
