In a highly publicised acoustic music show at the Nanzikambe Arts Café in Blantyre on Sunday, Angella Mizinga who is known as Tigris disappointed patrons by missing out on stage.

There was no communication about her absence and patrons kept on waiting to watch the self-acclaimed queen of guitar on stage. Even organisers were not sure of her availability until the date of the show, according to one, organiser, Misheck Mzumara.

In an e-mail response, Mzumara said the artist communicated to them that she was not feeling well, but promised to confirm her absence on Sunday.

“We got a phone text message from Tigris that she had developed flu and was not sure of whether she would perform or not. She promised to confirm her availability on Sunday of which she did. However, it was too late for us to cancel the show. We just substituted her with other artists,” said Mzumara, revealing that Eunice Kadzuwa of Mibawa Band was invited on short notice.

Tigris’s absence forced the organisers to bring in a long line up of artists to appease the patrons. The day’s performance started on a low note with some local reggae vibes from Chimwemwe Munthali. He mesmerised the audience with his dancing styles and the way he made his dreadlocks revolve like an umbrella.

With just a guitar, Matilda Wood, a Briton, took over the stage and played several romantic tunes leaving everyone spellbound.

As guest artist, Kadzuwa came last and as usual, she did not disappoint. She displayed a thrilling performance that forced some of the patrons into the dance floor. She performed several songs from her upcoming album, Eunice. Among the hits were Maloto, and Ndalimbamtima.

Mzumara was the happiest man at the end of it all.
