Harry Sichale endured a frustrating trip to Ukraine where he did not win any medal of the World Youth Championship in 3 000 metres on Saturday.

He left Malawi last Thursday, after failing to find a seat on an Ethiopian Airlines planeon Wednesday, said Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) general secretary Frank Chitembeya.

That Thursday, Sichale was detained in Instabul, Turkey where immigration officials demanded his visa for him to proceed to Ukraine.

“He was supposed to get his visa upon arrival in Kiev, but due to communication breakdown, they could not understand this. It took our intervention for him to proceed,” Chitembeya said.

“He arrived 30 minutes before the start of his race.”

Chitembeya was yet to get Sichale’s  finishing time. He is one of the promising young runners having finished ninth at Africa Youth Championship in Nigeria in April.
