Two Football Associations of Malawi (FAM) presidential aspirants—Moses Mkandawire and Alufeyo Chipanga Banda are set to meet affiliates and unveil their manifestos next month.

The pair join incumbent first vice-president James Mwenda who has also declared to contest for the top post at the FAM elective annual general meeting in December.

Mkandawire: I will engage them

When asked when they will meet the affiliates, they said September.

Speaking in an interview, Mkandawire said he has finished compiling his manifesto.

“Some of the affiliates are already aware of my plan. I will use next month to engage them,” he said.

On the other hand, Chipanga said he will roll out the campaign from September 1 starting with NRFA.

“I am ready for the campaign. Everything is in place and I will start with NRFA. The good thing is that my manifesto is in place,” he said.

Mwenda has already been endorsed by Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) and recently he was in Southern Region meeting affiliates for their support.

Commenting on the meeting they had with Mwenda, Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) chairperson Raphael Humba said they are waiting for other candidates to approach them.

He said: “It is true that we had a meeting with one of the presidential candidates Mr James Mwenda. He expressed his interest and we wanted to know what he has in store for the association.

“Still more, we are waiting for other candidates to come to us and present their manifestos as well. Our association is democratic, we will hear the views of all candidates before we make the final decision on who to support.”

On his part, Coaches Association of Malawi publicity secretary Aubrey Nankhuni described the meeting with Mwenda as fruitful.

However, he appealed to other candidates to do the same.

“As affiliates, we are supposed to meet all the aspiring candidates in the FAM polls. We met James Mwenda and we are calling upon other candidates to do the same,” he said.

Southern Region Youth Football Association (SRYFA) chairperson Duncan Jumbe, who is also National Youth Football Association of Malawi (NYFA)executive member said they are looking forward to meeting other candidates apart from Mwenda.

Incumbent FAM president Walter Nyamilandu is undecided on whether he will seek re-election or not.
