U-20 trials Sunday

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that it will on Sunday hold nationwide open trials for Under-20 national football team players selection for Cosafa Under-20 tournament scheduled for South Africa next month.

The exercise is expected to select 32 players who will camp at Mpira Village in Blantyre  alongside eligible players from Super League teams.

According to FAM technical director John Kaputa, the trials will be held at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre (Southern Region), Zomba Community Centre in Zomba (Eastern Region), Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe (Central Region) and Mzuzu Stadium in Mzuzu (Northern Region).

“All players eligible to participate in the trials must be born on or after January 1 1998.

The players will undergo screening before the trials commence. Interested participants are being asked to bring their identification such as passports, birth certificates and school identity cards accompanied by a letter  from the headteacher,”said Kaputa.

Under-20 coach Gerald Phiri, said members of the his technical panel and regional youth coaches from all centres will conduct the trials.

“It is good that coaches will also utilise the FMB Under-20 regional final on Saturday at Chiwembe Stadium (South), Dedza Stadium (Centre) and Nkhata Bay Community Centre ground (North) to scout potential players,”said Kaputa.

Phiri has described the nationwide trials as good, saying it will provide a wide range of choice for the squad. n
