Umodzi celebrates World Tourism Award

Umodzi Park Holdings on Friday hosted a cocktail and music party at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe to celebrate the World Travel Award it won last week.

The award was presented to The President Hotel by the World Travel Award for its excellence at a function that took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates last Sunday.

Kamtukule holds the award during the event

Minister of Tourism Vera Kamtukule attended the celebration where she joined in dance and interacted with Umodzi Park employees and other players in the tourism sector.

“We need to celebrate such achievements. It is for national pride. Umodzi Park has set a benchmark. This gives them the impetus to do more. They should never lower their standards because all eyes will be on them,” she said.

Kamtukule urged other players in the tourism industry such as tour guides, car hire firms, airlines and others to participate in global competitions to help market the country.

Umodzi Park Holdings chief executive officer Steve Lwanda said he was excited with the award.

He said: “The category is World Travel Awards Best Hotel in Malawi. This is a yearly competition, but for us it is the first year to enter the competition. We are happy to have won and thought it wise to celebrate with others in the sector.
