But before the euphoria had died, DRC equalised in the 8th minute and took the lead at half time recess. Malawi re-organised themselves in a desperate attempt to score.

But it was the guest participant, who hit Malawi where it pained most scoring the third goal in the 8oth minute.

Team manager Aubrey Nankhuni attributed the loss to loss of concentration.

“We didn’t play well. we gave away silly goals. We also need good preparation in future as it also affected the team,” he said.

Malawi started the campaign on a bad note by losing to hosts Zambia 2-0 in the official opening match for the tournament.

Their chances of progressing in the competition was dealt a big blow after giving away a 1-0 lead to draw against Mozambique in their second group game.

Malawi’s participation at the competition was doubtful because of lack of funds.

The team was hastily assembled to leave for the tournament without camping.

Meanwhile, the team is expected to return tomorrow accordingto leader of delegation, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) vice-presidentJames Mwenda.
