“Malawians are generally cool and laid back people as compared to some of us who are fiery in nature. This somehow works to the disadvantage of them as the show is for the fiesty type sort of,” he said.

While remaining real is the key to winning, he said viewers also look for entertainment.

“For Malawi to win, the country needs someone with a combination of characters —from Lomwe, Mzamo and Hazel. That will be the ideal person for me in terms of Malawi winning. Housemates need to be loved for doing something deemed right or bad by some.

“Remember, as a country Malawi has not performed badly at Big Brother. Malawi is one of the few countries that has reached the final stages of the competition a couple of times,” Uti said.

Commenting on Nigeria winning the reality show more than any other country, Uti said it is all because of ‘numbers’.

“We are the most populous nation in Africa and there are Nigerians in most parts of Africa. So, wherever they are, they vote and arguably more than locals. This is also a wake-up call to countries like Malawi that if you are serious about winning big brother be proactive whe i it comes to voting, ” he explained.—Sundu is reporting fromPort Louis, Mauritius
