Wanderers dismiss talk on Zim coach, Bullets in no hurry
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have dismissed talk linking them to Zimbabwean coach Norman ‘Nomara’ Mapeza, saying he does not feature in their plans.
The former Zimbabwe National Football Team coach, who is currently in charge of Premier Soccer League side FC Platinum has been linked with a possible move to Lali Lubani Road by Zimbabwean and local online media reports.
But in an interview yesterday, Wanderers president and board chairperson Thomson Mpinganjira said: “No. Absolutely no truth in this. Someone deliberately started that rumour to push us into getting that guy. It will not happen.
“We have not even started discussing that matter of replacement of head coach.”
Mapeza’s manager Gibson Mahachi said in an interview from Zimbabwe yesterday that while “we have read about the issue on several platforms”, they have not received any offers from Wanderers or elsewhere .
He said: “We keep seeing this both in mainstream and on social media, but trust me, we have not been approached.”
Mapeza led FC Platinum to a runners-up finish this season behind champions Simba Bhora.
The Nomads are currently under the tutelage of acting coach Bob Mpinganjira until the end of the season following the termination of immediate-past coach Meck Mwase’s contract for absenteeism.
Before him, theyhad Burundian tactician Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan, who resigned during the first round after two straight losses against Silver Strikers and Mzuzu City Hammers by 2-0 margins.
The immediate-past coaching panel was given a target to win the league and at least two cups, but they are in contention for the Castel Challenge Cup only, having missed out on the TNM Super League, FDH Bank Cup and Airtel Top 8.
Meanwhile, FCB Nyasa Bullets have said they are not in a hurry on the issue of coach as Kallisto Pasuwa’s deal is due for expiry.
The People’s Team acting chief executive officer Albert Chigoga in an interview yesterday, could not be drawn to comment on the future of Zimbabwean tactician, who is linked with the Flames’ job.
Pasuwa’s situation prompted Bullets to approach Silver Strikers coach Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda, to consider a return to his former team to take over from the former Zimbabwe National Football Team and Dynamos FC coach.
“We are not under pressure to deal with the situation. Everything is under control,” said Chigoga.
Apparently, Mponda has committed to extend his stay at the Reserve Bank of Malawi-sponsored side by two years.
