CISONECC drills CSOs on resource mobilisation
The Civil Society Network on Climate Change (Cisonecc) has quipped district-level Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) with essential skills in climate change management and resource mobilisation.
The training, held in Mponela, Dowa, forms part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of CSOs in tackling climate challenges effectively.
The training was implemented in partnership with Dapp Malawi and with support from the Commonwealth Foundation under the “Enhancing Access and Participation in Climate Change Policy Development and Implementation Project.”
It was organised following a mapping exercise conducted in late 2022 and early 2023, which highlighted significant capacity gaps in climate change initiatives at the district level.
Speaking during the event, Julius Ng’oma, CISONECC’s national coordinator, emphasized the significance of the training in securing resources to combat climate change.
“This training will help NGOs secure the necessary funding to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
“By enhancing their understanding of climate change issues and equipping them with proposal development skills, these organisations will be better positioned to implement impactful climate actions,” Ng’oma said.
The program focused on enhancing participants’ knowledge of climate change issues, developing skills in proposal writing, and sharing information on available funding opportunities.
It also provided a platform for CSOs to exchange experiences and strategies for implementing climate change adaptation, mitigation, and loss and damage initiatives.
Participants expressed optimism about the training, noting that the skills acquired would enable them to mobilise resources and execute climate actions more effectively at the district level.
Zoe Empowers Senior Programmes Facilitator, Esther Chinkhadze, remarked, “There is a lot we need to do to ensure our proposals are successful. Some of the issues we were previously unaware of, but we have now learned through this training.”
