Want to get rid of political violence? Rein in on bootlickers
Dear Judge Mbadwa,
I followed with keen interest, my lord, the debate that fol lowed Ny a s a l a n d Po l i c e Ins p ec tor Gener a l ’s report on the force’s p r e p a r e d n e s s t o provide security in the f o r thcoming gener a l elections.
The voices of discontent over p erce i ved bi a s against the opposition and government critics were ver y loud and justifiably so.
But I can submit, my lord, that Nyasaland is in this state because of the same politicians who have basically made the police dance to the sad tunes of the party governing at the time.
My l o rd, w e a l l r e m e m b e r h o w C h a i r m a n ’ s O l d Democrats were a law unto themselves as they brutally attacked critics of the Yellow Party.
Th e s h e n a n i g a n s of the cadets of the Peopl e’s Demagog i c Party (PDP) both during the time of Mose and h is Mapuya brother are wel l-documented. The machete carrying youths conducted their ‘unwelcome’ business against critics in full view of the police.
The Lazaro boys have sadly just perfected this art with their masked machete-wielding boys.
Am I justif ying this fol ly? Not at all! But my argument i s that politicians are a bunch of hypocrites who follow the same script when they form government. It is actually their bootlickers who are architects of the whole political terror.
I have cons i stent l y argued, my lord, that ‘hand-clappers’, who eat at the feet of leaders, are largely responsible for the perpetuated political impunity we experience.
Ever y time a new government is ushered i n , t h e sel f – ser v i ng handclapping leeches move in to clog the ears of the leaders.
What follows is that t h e b l o o d s u c k i ng parasites then set to work on the brains of their masters, removing the cerebrum and replacing it with maize husks so that the leaders should only respond to praise and worship from the supporters.
My Lord, this kind then sets their own form of democracy that becomes the government of the hand-clappers for the hand-clappers and by the hand-clappers.
Those who want to participate in such a form of governance are then forced to learn the art of handclapping and hero-worshipping otherwise they become victims of impunity.
Why did I rumbl e through such incoherencies, My Lord? Well, ideally we should be a law abiding country with leaders demonstrating democratic tendenci e s i n t h e i r leadership. But as long as the praise singers are allowed to get close to the leadership, every voice of reason from naysayers is perceived as coming from the enemy of the State; hence, worth silencing.
Hope they will find time to repent of their numerous sins.
Regards,
John Citizen.
