Gospel artist Wendy Harawa is set to make her maiden appearance at the One Africa Music Festival in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 22 to 28.

The event, dubbed Soul Praise Fest, will take place alongside a business summit, a global comedy fest and a pre-party on a yacht.

Wendy: I feel excited for being the first Malawian to represent the country at the festival

Harawa will appear alongside other big African artists such as Flavour, Tiwa Savage and Harmonize.

The artist said she felt honoured to be the first Malawian to be invited to perform at the event, which features continental heavyweights. Harawa said this is her opportunity to market Malawian art at an international stage.

“I feel excited for being the first Malawian to represent the country at the festival. It is a big opportunity as I have the chance to network with artists and promoters from around the world,” she said.

Harawa, who is signed under the Major 1 Record label, will perform on the fourth day of the festival. She said the strides that she has made since turning to gospel music are a manifestation that her career is on the right path.

According to the festival’s website, Africa Music Festival is one of the most prestigious  platforms in showcasing Africa’s best and brightest talents with the sole aim of solidifying Africa’s position within the entertainment industry at global level.

“Afro-beat music is currently the fastest growing music genre, gaining global recognition and having internationally known talents tapping into this unique sound. One Africa Music Fest is not only providing that platform for African talents to showcase their music and talents, but is also fast becoming a movement and lifestyle part of millennial mindset that is transcending demographics,” it reads in part.

The festival organisers say they see the concept of the event as a critical contribution to the development and awareness of African music/talents globally.

It says: “The results will be the expansion of physical and digital entertainment and lifestyle distribution, creating partnership opportunities around the globe.”
