The family of 34-year-old Treazer Misale Banda is appealing to well- wishers for support in raising $65 500 (about K74 million) to cover four surgeries in India where she was referred to for cancer treatment. The patient,

who is wife to Nation Publications Limited journalist Steven Pembamoyo Banda, has been battling the disease for several years and received treatment in various local hospitals until her recent referral. In an interview, her husband said the family raised K13.5 million to send her and a guardian to India for radiotherapy treatment as recommended by local oncologists, but after three scans,

doctors in India have recommended four additional surgeries that have necessitated extra costs. He said: “We thought we were done until Saturday when I got a call from the hospital explaining the procedures they have recommended. The cost almost choked me, but I have to make every effort to save my wife, that is why we are asking for support.”An invoice from Manipal Hospital in Bangalore, India, shows that doctors have recommended that she undergoes suprastructure maxillectomy, orbital exenteration,

anterior craniotomy, microvascular reconstruction and right neck dissection. The quotation further indicates that the cost of the five surgeries is $65 500, which has to be paid before treatment starts.Banda said well wishers can reach out to the family through 0993 952 732 or 0885 908 108 to get the hospital’s bank details. They can also deposit any support to: NBS Bank account number 10759366, bearing S. Banda, Standard Bank 9100000663791 bearing Holiness H Banda or National Bank 1007333923 bearing Teleza Nyirongo as well as mobile money wallets to the two phone numbers provided.—The Nation
