World Vision donates furniture to schools
W
orld Vision Malawi has donated desks, chairs and mattresses to Nsambo Primary School and Kameme Community Day Secondary School (CDSS).
Speaking on Friday during the handover at Chitipa District Council premises, World Vision Chitipa district manager Hendrix Kalanje said the initiative seeks to address absenteeism and school dropout rate at the two institutions.
He said: “We aim at creating an enabling environment for children, including improving access to learning. We believe in giving children much-needed support to enable them realise their full potential in life.

“By providing the furniture, we are sure that the children will improve their performance in class.”
Kameme CDSS head girl Eluby Chiona commended World Vision for the donation, saying it will motivate girls to go to school.
“Many girls walk long distances to school, and, as a result, they drop out. However, the mattresses will help girls to stay on campus,” she said.
On his part, Chitipa district coordinating primary education adviser Lusako Mbale hailed World Vision for the donation.
He said 272 learners at Nsambo Primary School were scrambling for six desks.
“The desks will help girls to comfortably respond to questions since they had problems answering while seated,” said Mbale.
He also said the mattresses at Kameme CDSS will ease the challenges students were facing as the institution last had new mattresses between 1994 and 1999.
“These mattresses will attract more girls to start boarding since some travel long distances to school,” said Mbale.
The items, which included 93 desks, nine tables and 13 chairs donated to Nsambo Primary School and 48 mattresses given to Kameme CDSS, were donated under Tiwerenge 365 Project through Gift In Kind Department.
