World Vision Malawi builds school blocks, 2 health posts

orld Vision Malawi has handed over two primary school blocks and two health posts to Ntchisi District Council.

Speaking on Sunday during the handover in Traditional Authority Kalumo, Ntchisi World Vision manager Thoko Chibwana said the two classroom blocks at Mankhamba Primary  School as well as Kachilandozi and Ng’anga health posts will ease communities’ access to education and health services.

“As a child-centredorganisation, we want to create a conducive learning environment for children as well as providing access to health services through under-five clinics,” he said.

Chibwana appealed to communities to take care of the facilities.

Ntchisi district environmental health officer James Mtonga commended the organisation for constructing the four facilities.

“Mothers used to travel long distances to Khuwi Health Centre to access under-five clinic and family planning services,” he said.

Senior Chief Kalumo said besides providing education and healthcare services, the facilities have also beautified the area.

However, he warned his subjects against vandalising the new structures.

Ntchisi district acting coordinating primary education adviser Annie Chazema said since the construction of modern classroom blocks at Mankhamba Primary School, enrollment has increased.

“Some learners come from villages in Dowa District to learn because they are enticed by the beautiful structures,” he said.

In his remarks, Bawala Ward councillor Frackson Sefasi commended World Vision Malawi for implementing various initiatives in the area.

“The organisationis implementing many interventions on water, sanitation and hygiene, health as well as education which have improved the lives of many people in the area,” he said.

The organisation constructed the school following pictures that went viral on social media showing children learning in makeshift structures.

The facilities have been constructed with financial support from World Vision South Korea.
