Rumphi district youth officer Misheck Msokwa says there is a big knowledge gap on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among the youth due to limited awareness on the same.

He made the remarks on Friday during a meeting with National Youth Council and National Planning Commission teams who are visiting selected districts to track the implementation of SDGs, focusing on youth involvement.

Chikapa: We’re tracking progress

Said Msokwa: “The main offices responsible for the awareness activities are the district youth office and district community development offices which have many vacancies.”

National Youth Council programmes officer Solomon Mlinda called for collaboration among stakeholders, including the media to popularise the SDGs among the youth to bridge the knowledge gap.

He said they will engage local government structures such as village development committees and area development committees to push for SDGs awareness in communities.

On his part, National Planning Commission development planning officer Adam Chikapa said they are tracking Malawi 2063 first 10 years implementation plan, which seeks to help achieve most SDGs, such as quality education and gender equality.
