Youths urged to refrain from political violence
Timbiri Youth Network has urged youths in Nkhata Bay District to refrain from political violence as the country prepares for the September 16 General Election.
The network’s chairperson Alex Phiri said this on Monday when the organisation held a football bonanza at Mwambazi Primary School in Traditional Authority Timbiri as part of raising awareness against political violence.

He said as the country is heading towards the campaign period, most youths risk being used to perpetrate political violence.
Phiri said: “We do not want to see our fellow youths being involved in political violence.
“We will not be happy to hear that our fellow youths have sustained injuries or are arrested because of causing violence.”
Speaking during the event, Malawi Electoral Commission civic and voter education assistant for Nkhata Bay-Mpamba Constituency, Willard Munthali, commended the organisation for the event.
“We will ensure that we work with the youth to disseminate messages on how we can deal with political violence,” he said.
A youth Patrick Nyimba said he will ensure that he takes the message to other youths to stay away from political violence.
“We do not want to be associated with any acts of political violence in our area and we will strive to ensure that we are not used to perpetrate political violence,” he said.
During the event, Walter Wanderers Football Club beat KG Movers 6-3 on post-match penalties after they were tied to 2-all at regulation time
