Dedza district youth officer Twesa Mwamlima has urged the youth in Dedza District to utilise their skills to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the development of their communities.
He said this on Monday during the commemoration of International Youth Day held at Chimbiya Primary School in the district under the theme ‘Different contexts: common aspirations’.
During the event, youths showcased various skills, including tailoring, mechanics, farming, baking, singing and poetry.
Mwamlima commended the youth for their activities and encouraged them to become productive citizens.
She also called on the youth to work together for development despite their different backgrounds and urged various stakeholders to support them to achieve their goals.
“Despite different contexts, we urge the youth to embrace what they have to achieve their goals. We also call upon government to continue implementing youth programmes that will help the youth to take part in development activities,” said Mwamlima.
She further encouraged the youth to make good use of loans provided through the Malawi Enterprise Development Fund (Medf) under the Reformed K5 billion Constituency Development Fund.
Chimbiya Ward councillor Prince Chigola (Malawi Congress Party) from Dedza Linthipe Constituency said the commemoration inspired youths in the district to be more innovative to become financially independent.
However, he noted that youths continue to face challenges, including limited support due to their geographical locations, inadequate education that can lead to misunderstanding of issues and lack of capital
