Zimba invited to WBC convention
Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) president Lonzoe ‘Defector’ Zimba has been invited to attend the 59th World Boxing Council (WBC) convention to be held in Mexico next month.
A letter from WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman states that the annual convention will run from November 14 to 19.
Reads the letter in part: “Being yourself an active member of the World Boxing Council and since this will deal with an important number of matters for the benefit of boxing in your country, as well as in the world, your attendance is important.
“Please make your best effort to be there, participate and be part of the world to keep our WBC as strong and important as always.”
Zimba said he was delighted to be invited as the forum will provide him with a platform to network with officials from all over the world.
He said: “It is during forums like these that we negotiate for the exposure of our boxers by, among other things, bargaining for bouts and recognition.
“In the recent past, we have had our boxers being considered for international title bouts because we have been able to convince global boxing institutions such as WBC.”
The MPBCB president also said such meetings also help them learn more about the administrative and technical areas of the game.
“So, the invitation is proof that the WBC appreciates the efforts we have made to improve the standards of boxing,” he said.
