During the visit, the minister reminded the communities that for a long time, they have been seeking medical help at Matiya Mission Health Centre and Zomba Central Hospital.

“When the facility is completed, be committed to sustain its operations as it has been constructed to ease the challenges that were encountered,” he said.

Zomba district health officer Raphael Piringu said the facility, which is expected to cover a population of not less than 1 500, has a maternity wing.

“The objective is to reduce neonatal and maternal deaths that arise from failure of communities in hard-to-reach areas to deliver in hospital due to long distances to the hospital,” he said. On his part, village head Makina pledged that the communities will sustain the facility.
