Despite both of Malawi’s Big Brother The Chase representatives exiting the competition, the country still has something to smile about as the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in collaboration with the Digital Satellite Television (DSTv) have agreed to offer the winner of the competition a holiday in Malawi.

The agreement which will see Malawi publicising her tourist attraction destinations through DSTv’s Big Brother Channels 197 and 198, is part of the ministry’s efforts to attract more tourists to the country capitalizing on the Southern Africa Development Community (Sadc) summit which will take place in the country next month.

The Tourism Ministry in an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) said the agreement will in turn afford the country an opportunity to publicize the forthcoming Sadc summit on DSTV’s Big Brother channels beginning August 1.

“We have put in place a holiday package for whosoever will win the prize money for this year’s Big Brother reality show and in turn, Malawi will be allowed to advertise her tourism adverts on Big Brother channels 197 and 198.

“It is the value of the holiday on offer that has allowed us to advertise on DSTV which we feel will expose the country to the rest of the world,” said Tressa Senzani, Principal Secretary in the ministry who disclosed that if the whole publicity was paid for, the country would have coughed USD24 thousand.

She however, was non committal as to when the winner will arrive in the country for the said holiday.

Locally, she said the ministry has already started publicizing tourism products on MBC TV to attract people to various tourism sceneries in Malawi.

She expressed optimism at the prospects of the summit dignitaries visiting the country’s Lake particularly Salima due to its proximity to the hosting city of Lilongwe.

“We are promoting all our tourism products for the summit and we have even gone a step further by setting up a special desk that will help those in need put up a tour to take them to destinations of choice,” said Senzani when asked whether the ministry has put in place guiding measures for the delegates who may wish to travel to various tourism centres.

MultiChoice Malawi officials were however, not immediately available for comment.
