If I were Chief Chikumbu
I would have felt ashamed to publicly declare my support for President Peter Mutharika when he presided over the launch of Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (Marep 8) in Mulanje.
If I were the traditional authority (T/A), I would realise that when I go out of the way to align myself with a political party instead of being neutral, then something is terribly wrong with me.
Oh yes mum, when the whole T/A loses the plot and gets overzealous with political screams like “ife tiri ndi inu nganganga, sitikusiyani” then it raises questions about my integrity and readiness to disengage from the one-party system hangover.
How I wish I were Chikumbu! I would realise that the picture I am painting is that my area is no-go zone for other presidential hopefuls except the incumbent.
If I were Chikumbu, I would realise that much as everyone has a right to support a political party or leader of their choice, it is not proper for a traditional leader to publicly align themselves to a political party or leader.
