If I were

If I were Peter Mutharika

President of the main opposition Democratic Progressive of Party (DPP), I would ensure to be on top of things all the time and avoid being reactive.

If I were Adadi, I would realise that it did not have to take the party’s former secretary general Grezelder Jeffrey to wake me up from my deep slumber at the Page House to realise the need to  call for a meeting to discuss the party’s convention.

Even though Jeffrey did not follow the party’s procedures in calling for a meeting last Wednesday, it should act as a wake-up call to be pro-active in the way I operate.

Oh yes, I would admit that the main opposition party, which is supposed to be the government in waiting, has been reduced to a mere comedy grouping that would beat the likes of Chindime and Samalani at their own game.

If I were APM, I would appreciate the harsh reality that with the continued squabbles in the party in the countdown to the 2025 elections, the once mighty DPP is destined for a shocker.

Under the circumstances, I would accept that there is need to move with speed in addressing the party’s serious cracks once and for all.

But I am not Adadi of the ‘awona nyekhwe’ fame.
