IF I WERE: Peter Mutharika

President of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), I would for once desist from using the Mulhako wa Alhomwe cultural celebrations at Chonde in Mulanje to advance my political interests. If I were the man defeated by President Lazarus Chakwera in June 2020, I would realise that my political rants at the Chonde festival grounds last week are not only divisive, but also an aftertaste of sour grapes as I have yet to publicly concede defeat. If I were the beloved Adadi, I would realise that not all Lhomwes belong to my political party, so I would organise a DPP-funded political rally or press conference to announce my aspirations to seek a comeback in 2025.If I were the US-trained law professor, I would remember Malawi is a multiparty nation and stop assuming that the Lhomwe cultural grouping is only followed by DPP supporters .Oh yes, If I were the man at the helm of DPP, I would also realise that there were other aspirants for DPP leadership and by using the cultural platform to advance my interests, I gave myself undue advantage over the likes of Kondwani Nankhumwa, Bright Msaka, George Chaponda, Dalitso Kabambe and Paul Gadama. If I were Adadi, I would also reflect on the need to level the playing field as a father figure. But I am not Adadi. Chala m’mwamba! Chala m’mwamba!
