Music, poetry and fashion meet at HS Winehouse tomorrow

Arts fanatics will tomorrow have a rare chance to sample music, poetry and fashion at HS Winehouse in Blantyre.’s Namiwawa residential estate.

Courtesy of Alpha Agency, the event is dubbed Fashion4Change and aimed at using arts to lobby for the protection of the environment.

“Alpha Agency through Fashion4Change and United Purpose are working  together to raise awareness on the devastating effects of deforestation and lobby for the protection of the environment,” said Ausa Kamanga, one of the directors of Alpha Agency.

Artists lined up for the event include Patience Namadingo, Stich Fray and poets Marumbo Sichinga and Sylvester Kalizang’oma.

Tickets are going at K5000 at  Kips Restaurant in old Nando’s premises and Studio M at Yabhana Building in Limbe.

Kamanga said fashion designers from Malawi and Zambia are billed to showcase their products.

Vonse Creations and House of Adriel (Zambia), Kliff Culture Clothing, Nyalisa Wear, House of Molly, Jay Designs, YDT, Dressed by Kezia, Alinafe and Tabby Culture from Malawi are some of the designers expected to showcase at the event.

He added that as a way to advocate for environmental protection and sustainability, they organised a cook-stoves challenge involving the corporate world in which Kukoma bought 3 300 Chitetezo Mbaula that will be donated to needy women.

“Poor communities in Malawi rely on natural forests for domestic use which is endangering our environment. Therefore, Fashin4Change wants to take a role in reversing the situation,” said Kamanga.

Namadingo said he was set to contribute towards the fight against environmental degradation in the country through the Fahsion4Change.

“This is an important cause which is in line with creating a sustainable country. As a musician and citizen of Malawi, I have a role to play; hence, my involvement,” he said.n
