Kuwali: All positions are up for grabs

The Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (Wabm) will hold its long-awaited general assembly on Saturday at Kamuzu Institute for Sports (KIS) in Lilongwe.

The elections were supposed to be held last February, but were postponed because of logistical problems.

According to Wabm president Richard Kuwali, the postponement was done after consulting Sports Council.

“We were advised by Sports Council to hold the Presidential Initiative for Sports tournament before the AGM. The tournament took place in March. Now, everything is in place and Sports Council has given its consent that we have the AGM on Saturday.

“All positions are up for grabs and the elections are open to anyone interested,” Kuwali said on Monday.

He has since asked all interested people to submit their names to the association’s general secretary, Harold Mwanayanga.

In a related development, Wabm has announced that this year’s Mr. Malawi contest will be held on November 1at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe.

“We had talks with the sponsor, ETC AgroTractors, and we settled for November 1. This is one of the most glamorous bodybuilders contests in the country. We appeal to bodybuilders from across the country to prepare for it,” said Kuwali.

He said during the AGM the executive members will create a technical director’s position as is the case in other countries’ associations.

ETC Agro Tractors managing director Zubair Sharikmaslat confirmed sponsorship of the November 1 contest, but could not be drawn to reveal the prizes at stake.
