Not intimidated: Phiri
Not intimidated: Phiri

Big Bullets new coach Gerald Phiri Senior has said he is not intimidated with the challenge of taking charge of the country’s football powerhouse.

Phiri also said he has what it takes to coach a big team such as Bullets.

“Of course, taking charge of a big team like Bullets comes with a lot of pressure because there is always an awful lot of expectation, but that does not worry me.

“My focus is to offer the best I can in the remaining games so that we can fight for [league] honours.

“The fact that Bullets management has elevated me to the post of head coach just shows how much faith they have in me and I will try as much as possible to repay them for their faith,” said Phiri.

He also said his past association with Mighty Wanderers does not haunt him.

“That is all water under the bridge, the fact that I played for Wanderers and was their assistant coach at some point does not mean I am a Nomad inside out. I once played for them and that time is gone, I have moved on,” he said.

Phiri’s first game in charge was against Blantyre United in a Super League match on Saturday in which the People’s Team came from behind to force a 1-1 draw in Nchalo.
