2nd Deputy Speaker motivates teachers
Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Aisha Mambo Adams has urged teachers and learners in Chimwala Zone in Mangochi District to work hard to achieve best results in national examinations.
She said this on Wednesday when she awarded best performing teachers and donated exercise books to schools.
Mambo Adams, who is also Mangochi Nkungulu legislator (United Democratic Front), gave eight bicycles to best-performing teachers. She also gave them money and other gifts to motivate them.
In an interview, she said the initiative sought to motivate teachers to work extra hard while easing mobility challenges they face to report to their schools on time.
“These awards are meant to motivate the teachers to up the game and make my constituency the best in terms of education,” said Mambo Adams.
She said the zone has not been performing well in Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations.
Said Mambo Adams: “The zone has poor PSLCE performance record. Most pupils are not selected to secondary schools. “Therefore, as the area’s legislator, I could not sit idle and watch this happening.”
Senior Chief Chimwala thanked Mambo Adams for the initiative, saying since she introduced it sometime back, a number of learners are now being selected to conventional secondary schools and community day secondary schools.
Changamire Primary School teacher Enerst Magani was all smiles after receiving his bicycle, saying mobility was a big challenge.
“But not anymore as I will reach school on time. This will improve performance of my learners,” he said.
Mambo Adams also donated 14 cartons of exercise books to teachers to share with their learners.
Last year, the lawmaker also awarded best performing teachers and learners in the area with various gifts to motivate them.
