Three lower league sides—Cobbe Barracks, Michiru Madrid and Kasungu Police—have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Carlsberg Cup.

Cobbe, who play in the Masters Security Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Premier League, were the last to sail through to the last eight after stunning TNM Super League outfit Blantyre United 2-0 on Saturday.

A double from Phillip Kishombe—one in each half—saw the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) side taking wing to the last eight in which they will face Nyasa Big Bullets.

They were the second lower league side to cause an upset after Michiru Madrid, also from the SRFA Premier League, came from behind to beat Super League rookies Chitipa United 3-2 on Friday at Chilomoni Stadium in Blantyre.

Michiru have become giants killers as they also ousted another Super League team Masters Security in the round of 32.

They will face Moyale Barracks in the quarter-finals.

In other quarter-final ties, Red Lions will take on Kasungu Police while holders Be Forward Wanderers are up against Blue Eagles. n
