Music to welcome New Year

The year 2024 comes to a close at midnight today and artists are buzzing with excitement as they prepare for 2025 by offering fans  high tempo entertainment.

Tomorrow, various districts are set for a series of shows not only to celebrate the New Year, but also to bid farewell to 2024.

Musician Temwah will be serving the final sounds of the year today at  Aero Lounge in Lilongwe.

In an interview, the Ndili Kuti hit maker says she is ready to give her best in her final performance of the year.

“I have never been so ready.  I am going to perform with the last energy of 2024 . It is going to be magical,” said Temwah.

After a successful concert at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe on Christmas Day, The Great Angels Choir will be at Ubunthu Lodge  in Salima on New Year’s Day.

Will be in Mzuzu: Zeze Kingston. | Nation

The group’s music director William Zonde said the group is already in Salima to start the New Year in style.

“People should expect a grand entry into the year 2025 with the choir’s performance alongside other artists who will also be performing. It is going to be a good experience,” he said.

Artists such as Billy Kaunda, Shammah Vocals, Miracle Chinga, Ennoh, Marvelous Deeds, Andrew Masiku, Levinson Masamba and Anasi Alex Nkalo will join the entertainment buzz.

In Mzuzu, Zeze Kingston will close the year today with a performance at Queens Club. He is expected to offer his signature style and beats to the Northern Region city alongside Fingerprints Band, Mzuzu Mafia and Old Timer.

For many artists, 2024 opened new opportunities to manage the New Year.

In an interview yesterday, urban music artist Piksy said the year provided a learning curve for him and he is looking forward to end it on a high.

“The New Year 2025 will be about putting in more work, more performances and music. I will resume my country tour in January as I target to perform in every district,” he said.

On his part, Saint said he managed to take new steps in his career which  was epitomised by his tours abroad.

He said: “The year was great for me. I have travelled around the world. The album I released last year is still making waves. In the upcoming year, I plan to do a concert and more international collaborations. People should expect a lot.”

But what are disappointing are councils, especially Blantyre and Mzuzu.

Blantyre City Council chief executive officer Dennis Chinseu said people should not expect anything from the council.

“We have not planned anything, but we will have enough time to prepare for next year. This is all I can say,” he said.

Mzuzu City Council spokesperson McDonald Gondwe also said they have not planned any event.

“We usually partner with other stakeholders in cases where they have planned something. Otherwise this year, we have no activities,” he said.
