Bullets, Wanderers laud tough competition
TNM Super League 2025 season pacesetters FCB Nyasa Bullets coach Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda and his Mighty Wanderers counterpart Bob Mpinganjira say the race for the title will be hotly contested.
For weeks, the age-old rivals are on each other’s throat separated by only two points.
Bullets top the table with 21 points from eight matches, two ahead of the Nomads who have played a game less.

In separate interviews, Mponda and Mpinganjira said it is testimony of how tight the race will be.
The Bullets gaffer, whose side has won seven and lost once to Wanderers so far, said: “It is getting tough each passing day, something that has not been seen in recent years.
“The tight competition is really good for football, I am very happy with the way the season is penning out.
“That said, we are still in the early days and we have a long way to go. We will have a clear picture after about 20 games or so.”
On his part, Mpinganjira, whose side has dropped only two points in seven matches, said: “It’s turning out to be a tightly contested season so far.
“Maybe it’s because of the teams at the top, but for us, we are not looking at how others are doing. The focus is on ourselves we do not care how others are doing.
“It is a marathon and we will take each game as it comes, but the competition is indeed tough and it’s not only the top two teams.”
Closing in on the two two giants are rookies Ekhaya FC, who are third with 16 points from eight matches, three points behind second-placed Wanderers while Karonga United are fourth with 15 points from seven matches.
The Blantyre-based Cowboys have won five, drawn once and lost twice while Karonga United have won five and lost twice.
Reigning champions Silver Strikers lie mid table on eighth with 12 points from eight matches.
Newly-promoted Songwe Border United of Karonga’s struggles continue as they are the only team yetb to register a win.
They have one point earned in a one-all draw against Mzuzu City Hammers and they have lost their eight other fixtures.
Football analyst Charles Nyirenda said with a quarter of matches played, Bullets and Wanderers are the front runners.
He said: “In the past decade, except for the 2023 season when Blue Eagles finished second, these two and Silver Strikers have always been in the top three.
“Of them all, Bullets have been more consistent, especially when they go in front.
“So, the previous trend is most likely to continue and so far, Wanderers and Bullets seem to be the teams to best.”
