Diocese builds 4 teachers ’houses in Chitipa District
Teachers at Kawale Primary School in Chitipa District have thanked Karonga Diocese of the Catholic Church for constructing four teachers’ houses.
In an interview on Saturday, the school’s head teacher Vincent Munyimbiri said only five out of 36 teachers had houses at the school.

He said: “With the additional four houses, it means we now have nine teachers residing at the school. This will enhance efficient delivery of lessons.
“We appeal to other stakeholders to help construct more houses.”
A beneficiary Ethel Kayuni said she used to spend K3 000 daily on transport to school.
“Preparation of lesson plans was difficult due to long distances and fatigue.
Now, that is history. I am able to plan well and deliver lessons efficiently,” she said.
Kayuni also said the houses will motivate teachers to work hard.
The diocesan education desk officer Lino Nyirenda said the diocese received funding from United States of America-based Cross Catholic Outreach and constructed two duplex staff houses at K163.4 million and two classroom blocks with desks, toilets and textbooks at K122.2 million.
He said: “The construction of these classroom blocks mean that children who were learning under trees have extra space and desks to sit at, thereby increasing performance while the four houses can now accommodate four more teachers who will have more time to prepare for lessons.”
The school has 1 889 learners.
