TNM Super League strugglers Songwe Border United have announced plans to seek ancestral intervention by, among others, offering a cow sacrifice in a bid to ward off bad luck.
The Karonga-based outfit is finding the going tough in their top-flight debut season, as it anchors the log table with only a point from nine matches, having lost eight and drawn once.
In an interview yesterday, the club’s general secretary Palisha Swira said there is a strong feeling among the club’s stakeholders that the team is struggling because they did not seek their ancestors’ blessings.

He said the event will be held before their next match against Chitipa United scheduled for next week.
Said Swira: “First and foremost, we will seek spiritual cleansing from our community ancestors.
“We will slaughter a cow as part of thanks giving for earning promotion to the TNM Super League.
“We will also present last season’s Northern Region Football Association Premier Division trophy to Chief Kyungu and there will also be traditional dances.”
Meanwhile, the club has reduced its first round 20 points’ target by half.
Said Swira: “It’s been tough so far, but we are confident that we can hit 10 points by the end of the first round.
“We feel it is a realistic target as we have six games to play.”
He also said they have not given up on surviving relegation.
“There are still so many games to play. We are now almost half way through and we’ll keep fighting,” said Swira.
The club’s coach Christopher Nyambose attributed the team’s struggles to lack of experience at the top level.
“Most of the players are playing in the Super League for the first time and are still learning the ropes,” he said.
