Limbe Health Centre seeks more support
Limbe Health Centre in Blantyre says it is struggling with critical shortage of equipment, including wheelchairs and other basic medical supplies.
Despite attending to about 600 patients a day or 10 000 a month, the facility has no stretchers, has one working wheelchair, two blood pressure machines and no weighing scale, according to Blantyre District medical officer Dr Hawa Mtitimila..

To help fill the gap, Standard Bank plc on Monday donated medical equipment worth K7 million to the facility.
The donation included stretchers, wheelchairs, mattresses, blood pressure machines and other essential supplies to improve patient care and ease the workload for
health workers. In his remarks, Standard Bank plc head of client coverage Ewen Hiwa said the support is part of the Malawi Stock Exchange-listed bank’s efforts to give back to the community.
He said: “We believe that Malawi’s growth depends on the wellbeing of its people.
“By supporting healthcare access and infrastructure, we are contributing to the aspirations of Malawi 2063 and moving positively towards attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
On his part, Mtitimila
thanked Standard Bank for the support and asked for more help to improve services at the centre.
“I should commend Standard Bank, their support will indeed help us. I should also ask other companies to help us as we have a lot of needs,”he said.
