Bishop Mtumbuka calls on NGO to work with integrity

Bishop Martin Mtumbuka of Karonga Diocese of the Catholic Church has urged workers under Lusubilo Community Care Organisation to ensure that projects benefit the less-privileged.

He said this on Monday after a tour of Karonga and Chitipa districts to appreciate the impact of the Integrated Support for Orphans, Children, Vulnerable and Youth Project which the organisation is implementing under the diocese in the districts.

Said Mtumbuka: “I am impressed with what I have seen. I have seen real transformation of people. You deserve a pat on your backs for this feat.

“However, let me warn you not to be at Lusibilo Community Care Organisation primarily for a job and not to enrich yourselves. Strive always to uplift people who are less-privileged. Be like Jesus Christ who fed the hungry and provided for the poor. This is a charity arm of the Roman Catholic Church under Karonga Diocese.”

During the tour, Mtumbuka inspected savings groups and water, sanitation and hygiene projects, among others.

On his part, Catholic Relief Services country representative

Sekai Mudonhi commended the organisation for its teamwork which contributed to the successful implementation of project activities in the districts.

“The project has transformed people’s lives. We are committed to continuing the technical and financial support to the organisation as long as resources are available,” he said.

Lusubilo Community Care executive director Joseph Kimangira attributed the success to the sound guidance of the bishop and the institution’s constitution and strategic plan.

“Our mandate is to stand for the vulnerable orphans, youths and adults and households that are not able to feed themselves,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Kolinesi Mwalyungu, from Kapiyila Village in Traditional Authority Mwirang’ombe in Karonga commended the organisation for the interventions which enabled her to build a decent house
