CTS decries rising theft of goods

CTS Courier, one of Malawi’s leading logistics and courier service providers, has raised concern over an increase in incidents where thieves block company vehicles and steal goods in transit.

According to the company’s Managing Director, Jacqueline Bokosi, the attacks have mostly occurred along the Linthipe 3 road in Dedza District, where groups of more than 20 people have been ambushing and looting the company’s trucks carrying valuable goods.

“These criminals have staged such attacks more than five times, and the situation is becoming increasingly worrying,” said Bokosi. “Our prices are already affordable, so continued theft of this nature is not only criminal but also a major setback to our business operations.”

She further appealed to the Malawi Police Service to strengthen patrols and enhance security along major routes, saying the problem has become widespread and is affecting many transport operators.

“We are not the only ones facing this challenge; several truck drivers are being robbed in a similar manner,” Bokosi said. “We have repeatedly reported these incidents to the police, but assistance has been minimal. We therefore urge the authorities to step up security along the roads and other hotspots where such attacks are common.”
