E-payment system enhances efficiency in cash transfers

M’mbelwa District Council principal gender officer responsible for Social Cash Transfer Programme Shadreck Mingo has expressed satisfaction with the electronic payment (e-payment) for its efficiency.

Speaking on Sunday at Eswazini in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kampingo Sibande, where beneficiaries received their stipend through e-payment, he said the new system is not only safe but also convenient.

Mingo said despite delayed payment in the area due to poor network, failure by some beneficiaries to remember their mobile phone PIN numbers and limited capacity among some agents, the system has cut costs on logistics and allowances for officers.

He said: “We rolled out the e-payment system in January this year and much as we experienced some hiccups, we have also registered progress.

“So far, we have registered at least 17 939 beneficiaries on e-payment against 21 000 beneficiaries. We are working hard to resolve the issues and ensure all beneficiaries are receiving their payments electronically.”

Unity Mphande, 41, said she will use the money to buy food for her household and fertiliser for her maize field.

“My household is food-insecure because I did not harvest enough during last farming season. I will, therefore, buy fertiliser to improve my crop production,” she said.

Gian Msowoya, 45, who received K253 000, said he will continue investing the money in farming activities to improve food security.

In the district, the social cash transfer e-payment service is being provided by KakuPay, which is under Wealthnet Finance
