Masters rope in Mponda

Masters Security FC have confirmed that they are on the verge of roping in immediate-past FCB Nyasa Big Bullets gaffer Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda as their head coach.

The Lilongwe-based outfit, which has agreed terms to buy newly-promoted FDH Bank Premiership side Baka City’s franchise, has offered the coach a three-year deal.

Mponda: There are just a few areas to finalise.

Masters have beaten Goshen City Dedza Dynamos, who also offered the Flames assistant coach a similar role.

Mponda was also linked with a return to South African second-tier league side Black Leopards as an assistant coach.

Masters Security Group of Companies acting chief executive officer Christopher Njeula confirmed in an interview yesterday that negotiations were at an advanced stage.

He said: “Yes, I can confirm that we are in talks with Peter and I would say we are at 70 percent. We are optimistic of reaching an agreement.”

Mponda also confirmed in a separate interview that he has committed to Masters.

He said: “In principle, I have agreed to the deal, there are just some few areas to finalise then I can hit the ground running. Not much to say at this point until we get things done, but I look forward to the new challenge.”

Mponda guided Silver Strikers to end their 11-year league title drought in 2024 before jumping ship to join his former club Bullets at the start of this season.

He led the People’s Team to win the Airtel Top 8 and  finish second in the league.

Mponda was fired after Bullets’ bid for an 28th title fell by the way side after being held to a barren draw by Mighty Tigers, which led to their rivals Mighty Wanderers sealing the title after thumping Moyale Barracks 6-0.
