Accountants challenged to embrace latest technology

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has challenged its members to be in tune with latest technology to stay ahead of competition.

ACCA Malawi Members’ Network Panel chairperson Wyson Kayira made the challenge on Friday in Blantyre during the association’s Data Analytics and Business Intelligence Tools Workshop.

Mtoko: Up-skill or die

He said continuous professional development of members is key for their career growth as their firms endeavour to keep ahead of competition.

“We organised this workshop to benefit our members as part of continuous development to help accountants develop their professional careers.

“We believe that an accountant of today should know more about issues of digital world so that they can be more efficient,” he said.

On his part, CellSoft management consultant Peter Mtoko, who was also the keynote speaker, said it is important that accountants keep abreast of latest technology to improve on efficiency, time management and financial reporting.

“It’s either you upskill or you die. After graduation, many accountants will just sit and struggle with the numbers until they realise that there is something they don’t know and a majority of them don’t realise that there is something they don’t know, but if they had known them, their work would be much easier.

“It is important that financial personnel and any other users of spreadsheets have modern data skills to stay ahead of competition,” he said
