Karonga United chairperson Alufeyo Chipanga Banda has said they are suspicious of how a Nigerian player found himself at the club without an agreement between his outfit and the player’s agent.

The player in question, Kenneth Okuchwu, arrived in the country through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe at the weekend.

But the TNM Super League side’s chairperson on Sunday said they were taken by surprise to learn arrival as there was no agreement.about the player’s

Chipanga: I was
taken by surprise

Said Chipanga Banda: “I got a call from an Immigration official informing m that there was a player who had just arrived from Nigeria and was destined for our team.

“This came as a surprise and I asked the official if I could speak to the player since I was not aware of such an arrangement and the player told me that he had been sent by his agent he identified as Taga who told him to contact me upon arrival on the assumption that an agreement had already been reached.”

He said he then contacted the player’s Nigerian agent who sent him a screenshot of a letter purportedly from Karonga United asking that the player be sent to Malawi and that he woud be offered a deal.

Apparently, the agent said the letter purported to have come from us was sent by a local agent called Prince Jere

“But when I confronted Jere about the issue, he denied any knowledge. Nevertheless, we asked the player to come here in Karonga so that he should not be stranded as we try to get to the bottom of the issue.

“But as an executive [committee], we have agreed to seek police intervention because there is an element of forgery here and depending on what comes up, we will map the way forward,” he said.

Jere yesterday denied knowledge of the issue.

“Of course, my agency deals with West African players, but for this particular case I am not aware,” he said.
