Agriculture Minister erects sculptures at Capital Hill

Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe has become the talk of the town after revealing his impressive artistic side by erecting sculptures at Capital Hill in Lilongwe.

Visual artist Lowe has created sculptures at his Ministry of Agriculture offices, attracting admiration of other ministries.

The impressive sculptures include dairy cows, goats and a woman balancing a basket full of maize on her head.

In an interview, the minister said he created the sculptures to depict the activities of his ministry.

“Because of my passion for visual art I have always wanted my office at the Capital Hill to depict our activities through the visual works. I am impressed to have finally achieved this goal,” he said.

Lowe said he spent his youthful years practising visual arts; hence, he decided to reignite his passion.

“I have always loved visual arts all my life. I have been doing paintings and sculptures since I was a youth and I love it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lowe’s works have attracted the attention of other ministers.

Homeland Security Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda saluted his fellow minister for the great talent.

“I think I will ask the honourable minister to come and do some sculptures of guns and patrol vehicles at my office,” joked Chimwendo.

He added that the sculptures at the Ministry of Agriculture great and beautifying the office.

Commenting on Lowe’s works, visual artist Osman Arts described the minister as inspirational.

“I didn’t know that the minister has such a great talent. He is such as great motivation, not only to me, but also the arts industry as a whole,” he said.

Osman Arts added that he was optimistic that the minister will be supporting arts-related bills in the National Assembly.

“The arts industry needs several programmes to improve. And with what I have seen from Honourable Lowe, I am hopeful that he will support the industry,” he said.
