There is a saying ‘do what you love and love what you do.’ Certainly, musician Alinafe Kalizang’oma known as AK loves what he does. He has worked with big names in Malawi urban music such as Gwamba, Krazie G, Kennedy Nkombezi (RJ Kenney), Synic, Genesis, Lilia and Metamore who is now in the UK.

The young producer has also worked with and produced a track for some of Africa’s finest, 2Face Idibia and Tay Grin.

Born on December 3 1991, AK says his love for music grew when he was in secondary school. The artist, who idolises 2Face Idibia and Tay Grin, says it was a dream come true when he produced a track for them.

The passion was so great that not even tight school timetable and monitoring of school progress could stop him. Torn between his two loves—music and school—he had to make a plan to ensure that none of his loves gets less attention and it seems to have worked for him.

“I do music during my free time. I can assure you my school progress has never been affected,” he said.

AK was affiliated to the rap crew Hype Boys, but after most of his crew members went abroad to study, he concentrated on production and founded Hype Entertainment. He has signed some urban artists such as Martse and Chance.

“My label has promoted these artists and I am proud with the response our music is getting.”

The record label has been well received by many, especially university students who usually invite him to perform at social weekend gatherings and he also supports talent shows in various locations.

“After I produced a couple of singles, I received a call from Tay Grin asking me to work with him. I couldn’t believe my ears,” said AK.

The Two by Two rapper then showed up at his studio, but to AK’s surprise, Tay Grin had company and it was 2Face Idibia.
