Alleluiah Band thrills Blantyre on Subili’s birthday

Alleluiah Band lead singer Paul Subili celebrated his birthday in style when he led the Balaka-based group at a spectacular performance at The Sportsman’s Bar, Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre.

The music outfit performed at the venue instead of the resident band, Nep Sounds Band, which had other engagements the same evening.  The group ensured that patrons did not feel any absence or nostalgia.

Subili in action

Led by Subili on the lead vocals, Alleluiah Band offered a music experience that spanned across generations. They brought out classics from the days of Paul Banda, Mat Kalima, Paul Chaphuka, Foster Chimangafisi, Charles Sinetre, Lucius Banda and Coss Chiwalo.

The group set the tone for the night’s music menu through lead guitarist Samson Chikoti, one of the longest serving members of the group. On the night, Chikoti took on the new responsibility of leading the group from the front.

The band dished out songs such as Mtendere and Zonse ndi Zabwino, among others. His time on stage reminded the patrons of the days when Paul Banda was at the helm.

After him, the group’s current youthful face in vocalist Sean took over. The young singer took the audience down memory lane with renditions of songs such as Chimangafisi Dollar, Ndichilitseni and Kulota Satumana.

Chikoti and Sean’s stay on stage was just a precursor of the main dish of the night. Time and age looked like they have had any effect on Subili’s stage application. The energy and commitment the singer displayed was awe-inspiring.

The group’s performance was organised by Nep Sounds and Event Management Company and its director Martin Dias said it was thrilling to have the group perform on the platform.

“With the usual performers being away, we thought we could surprise the patrons with a different experience,” he said.
