Speaking during prize presentation at Amaryllis Hotel on Wednesday, Gold Mountain Media director Tapps Bandawe said the campaign seeks to connect brands directly to their consumers.

He said: “The competition is crucial because it brings listener engagement as it allows the consumers to comment on the products on offer and how they can be used.

“As opposed to some mediums where people just win money, we are encouraging people to win prizes from the actual manufacturers that are selling the products.”

Bandawe said the Amaryllis e-Radio is built to take the concept of radio and entertainment to the people and it uses the digital network to broadcast to all major retail outlets and shopping malls across Malawi.

“But we are also on digital network platforms such that someone can listen to it on their phones and laptops. But the main concept behind is to bring together the listener and the advertiser. We want to connect with the consumers,” he said.

Amaryllis Hotel general manager Ramy Waheed said as an establishment they are proud to be part of an initiative of content creation that reaches out to people and rewards them for their achievements.

He said: “We are excited for the future. We want to get all the feedback that we can so we can continue to grow as a brand. The plan is to make it an FM radio. We are currently in discussions with the authorities to work out the licence.”

Osman Foods accountant Allan Mvumbi said ever since they entered into partnership with Mountain Goat Media and Amaryllis Hotel they have seen the demand of their products increase threefold.

“We had a problem promoting our products. So, when we heard about the idea of Amaryllis e-Radio competition, we thought of partnering them, because wherever there is a shopping mall or shopping centre it means the message of our products will reach the people there,” he said.

The Amaryllis e-Radio reaches out to 120 000 people per day and some of its areas of access include, Chichiri Shopping Centre in Blantyre, The Gateway Mall in Lilongwe, Mzuzu Mall and Lilongwe City Mall.

Some of the prizes on offer at the competition include air flights, mobile phones, DStv and GOtv decoders, hotel accommodation, shopping vouchers and driving courses.
