The Central Zone Basketball Women’s League game between Angels and Capital Clippers ended prematurely at Civo Court on Sunday.

Angels refused to continue playing with six minutes into the second quarter citing poor officiation.

The game was officiated by one referee Lusungu Mtawali.

Capital Clippers who featured Alinafe Phiri, Chifundo Mapondo, Judith Chirwa, Wakisa Kalumikiza AND Memory Chipungu, were leading by 30-18 at the time of abandonment.

Angels coach Austin Banda accused Mtawali of being against them in his officiation.

“The game of basketball is supposed to be officiated by two referees, but it’s unfortunate that we only had one. His decisions were always against us. When we tried to seek clarification on his calls, we were given technical fouls. Just fancy we were given five technical fouls and we thought enough is enough, “said Banda.

Match commissioner Laura Munthali caused Angels of breaking the rules of the game.

“The rules are clear that you don’t question referees or intervene directly, that warrant technical foul. When a team has issues with officiation, it go through match commissioners. I as commissioner, the game is a forfeit because they refused to continue playing,” said Munthali.

Cezobal general secretary, Lusungu Banda, who also plays for Angels denied commenting on the league stand.

“It’s like I am also an interested part, so it will be difficult to comment, “said Banda.
