Members of St Thomas Anglican Church in Lilongwe recently visited Chankhungu Orphanage Centre in Dowa as part of the Christmas and New Year festivities.

They distributed assorted items such as sugars, salt, biscuits and clothes worth about K200 000 to orphans.

Leader of the church Reverend Francis Takilima said the church believes in sharing with others.

He pledged to construct a kitchen for the orphanage and buy the centre fertiliser for this farming season.

Chankhungu orphanage committee chairperson Benard Polepole thanked St Thomas congregation for the gesture.

“Our kitchen is indeed in bad condition and on the verge of collapse. We also have water problems. We had a borehole, but it dried up three years ago,” he said.

The orphanage looks after 400 children from Kachere, Ng’anjo and Chimwankhuku communities.
