The TNM Super League could welcome a fifth Malawi Defence Force (MDF) team next season if the trend continues in the Southern Region Football League (SRFL) and the Chipiku Central Region Football League (CRFL).

Cobbe Barracks are in a neck-and-neck battle with SRFL leaders Chikhwawa United going into the halfway stage of the Premier Division. So far, MDF contributes to the Super League Mafco, Red Lions, Moyale Barracks and Kamuzu Barracks.

In CRFL, the military side Airborne Rangers top the 20-member Premier Division on 44 points from 21 games, followed by Nambuma United’s 40 points from a similar number of games.

In the same league, Kasungu Police also have some championship hopes while lying third on 38 points from 21 games whereas Hardknockers come fourth with 36 points, one behind Support Battalion.

Mchinji Ranks are bottom having collected just 13 points from 22 matches. Dowa Medicals lie mid table, but they are ably represented on the Golden Boot Award chase by their leading striker Leonard Mateyu who has scored 15 goals.

Brian Lungu (Namitete Young Rangers 13), Vincent Manyasi (Maumau FC 13) and Fredrick Manyasi’s 12 goals for Dedza Young Soccer complete the leading scorers’ list so far.

In the Simama Mzuzu and Districts Football League, Kabwafu lead the table followed by Mzuni.
