To bid the year 2023 farewell and usher in 2024, several entertainment events will take place over the weekend.

The Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Entertainers of the Year awards will take place on Saturday December 30 at Bingu International Convention Centre while the annual Entertainers Promotions (EP)End of Year Party is scheduled for New Year’s Day Eve at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre.

Kasakula: The support is overwhelming

In an interview, MBC director general George Kasakula said they are ready to host one of a kind end of year entertainment awards after a long break.

“As MBC management, we are not directly involved in the votes handling, but the independent team handling it has assured that Malawians are voting for their favourites. They say on average 500 000 votes are being cast every day. That is overwhelming,” he said.

Kasakula added that when they revived the awards, they were aware that Malawians’ taste of entertainment has changed over the years and that technology has come in.

“We considered all that and this is why Malawians chose even the nominated individuals and are now voting which will end an hour before announcing winners,” he said.

Kasakula also assured that this year’s winners will go home with substantive gifts.

On his part, EP director Tonderai Banda said the party is a continuation of what they have been doing since 2016.

“We are hosting it together with Amaryllis Hotel as our partners. I think people deserve to finish the year in style. After hard work throughout the year, people have to relax and celebrate,” he said.

In Lilongwe, music lovers will bid farewell to 2023 at Bingu International Convention Centre auditorium on December 31 with the Castel Music Festival.

Also handled by EP, the event will have performances from various local artists such as Tay Grin, Temwah, Saint,Kell Kay, Zani Challe and many more.
