Baptist women urged to lead by example

Over 500 Baptist women in Malawi popularly known as Umodzi wa Amayi a Baptist, on Saturday were asked to lead by example while discharging their duties.

The call was made by Southern region coordinator Mercy Mbewe during the closing of a two-day conference, dubbed ‘In Step with the Spirit’ from Galatians 5: 25 at Lisuli Baptist Church in Chikhwawa.

“We need to lead by example because people judge us by what we are and do. We have to walk in step with the Holy Spirit and do things as the spirit leads,” advised Mbewe.

The conference was attended by eight associations of women members from Chikhwawa, Nsanje, Blantyre, Phalombe, Thyolo, Mulanje, Mwanza and Ntcheu.

Mbewe said the criteria for being a woman of Baptist is that one has to be married or widowed, born again Christian, spiritually mature and baptised.

The conference was also attended by the body’s national president Bridget Mwenefumbo who reminded delegates the role of women in the church, which is helping the less priviledged.
